Skateboarding and monkeys have a funny partnership. When the council listen to what people want, in this case a skate park in Gorton, and everything seems to be going in the right direction, the skate park monkey comes from the trees and takes the money, buys some concrete, chucks it around and calls it a skate park. Its funny because to anyone, over 30 who doesn’t skate and isn’t a monkey, this looks like a skate park, but we all know that this is only a quarter of a skate park, it’s the start of a skate park, its almost a skate park and the rest of it must be with that monkey somewhere, waiting to be skimmed in.

Now monkeys throw poo, but they aren’t the only mammal that throw poo. Politicians also throw poo, I know this because I watched it during this years election. They were throwing poo at each other live on T.V, during this I thought maybe they know the skate park monkey. The monkey that said that building a skate park like this would help keep crime and anti social behaviour down in the area. Maybe they believed in the poo they where throwing and went home with a feeling that they had really helped the community, maybe they should do some research, I know lots of other boroughs that didn’t let the monkey spend the money, or waited and got a real community changing skate park built by a reputable company. Now its too late, the money is spent and the kids in Gorton aren’t that stoked, at least not if they keep skating and see what else is out there.
The park warden is flipping rad
To the public a skate park has no design principle to follow, so really, you can build whatever you want and call it a skate park, this is a fun strip of concrete with a weird curved corner, a grind box/bar and a flat bank, that’s three obstacles and yeah its fun, for a while. When asked to demo there, I said yes, after the ribbon cutting and speech I felt a little bit sad, I know kids aren’t winning much, maybe a quarter of a skate park, they took pictures, it ended up in the local news and now I’m a part of the travesty, but really I just want to throw poo at them and be done with it.
